american holly / pot 6" x 6" / bowl 4.5"h x 5.5"w
Sho sugi ban is the japanese art of preserving wood with fire. This technique has been used on cedar siding of homes in japan for hundreds of years and is now being used by craftsman across the globe. This pot and bowl set has undergone a special firing process involving firing while wet and a tung oil impregnation while hot. The interior of the forms were then white washed with oil to create a dramatic contrast of color and texture.
